Why this site exists
Get More REM Sleep is a plain-language guide to REM sleep: what it is, why it matters, and the everyday habits that help protect it. Most of us know how a short or restless night feels the next day. We want to explain the science behind that feeling in a way that is clear, practical and honest about what is and is not known.
How we write
- We follow mainstream sleep research and guidance from organizations such as the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the National Sleep Foundation and the U.S. National Institutes of Health.
- We say when evidence is limited. Many sleep products and supplements are promoted with bigger claims than the research supports. When studies are small or mixed, we say so.
- We avoid precise-sounding numbers we cannot back up. Sleep varies a lot from person to person, and consumer trackers only estimate sleep stages.
- We update guides when we find better information or mistakes. If you spot an error, please tell us.
Our relationship with Good Sleep
This site is affiliated with Good Sleep, which makes a water-based heating and cooling mattress topper. That means we have a financial interest when you buy Good Sleep products through links on this site. We may also earn commissions from other affiliate links. Not medical advice
Everything here is general education. It is not a diagnosis or a substitute for care from a doctor. If you have ongoing sleep problems, loud snoring with breathing pauses, severe daytime sleepiness, or you act out your dreams, please talk to a healthcare professional.
